New Release Plan
We have decided not to pursue the NeoPwn project any further as BackTrack Mobile. There has been an incredible investment of time put into this project on the NeoPwn side of the fence, and there is not an apparent benefit to gain given the lack of development and support shown otherwise.
For this reason, it will continue as version 2 of the original project.
What about the Beta release that was planned?
Unfortunately, this will not happen during the Blackhat and Defcon conferences. We are a couple of weeks off the mark from approaching beta.
We're making an investment of time and money to ensure that this project kicks off correctly (since free developers are far and few between these days). We have made some tremedous progress thus far, but because of the costs incurred (and the very little support we have received to offset them, there is no choice but to employ a new release plan before we can support a full blown free release.
NeoPwn v2 Beta (Public)
We will produce a publicly available file system image once the project has reached the beta stage. Will not include an installer, the NeoPwn control panel software, support, or the injection driver. Beta testers are welcome to test this image.
NeoPwn v2 Beta (Private)
A LIMITED amount of initial requests will be accepted for pre-formatted microsd digital cards that will include the control panel, injection driver and file system as well as complete N900 systems. We are not interested in producing these in the masses, and there will be a 21 day turnaround for your order to be delivered.
Contact us for details and pre-orders using the form on the top right.
NeoPwn v2 Final
The final version will be free for download once it has been completed and when a safe installation process has been developed. This has been our goal for v2 from the start and it will happen. At this time however, there is not a definitive release date targeted for the final version (realistically a couple of months away).
Final Thoughts
An open source project cannot exist without support from the community. Each individual can be motivated one day to contribute, and the next be a ghost. There are some people that have good initial intentions, that in the end cannot live up to what they set out for. The fact of life is everyone has their own responsibilities and contributing to something with little return is not a priority.
I'm personally a man of my word and follow through with what I set out for. When I commit to something, I do it and I have a proclivity for perfection. Managing an open source project for some is easier over time when the work is complacently delegated to their minions. But as time has shown, the end product in those cases usually turns to garbage from neglect and loss of interest.
